Fun project, excellent results. I found this project idea on Pinterest at http://www.pinterest.com/pin/544020829957885379/ . I had to find a way to teach the lesson by incorporating a purpose. I was very unsure how to do so. I began by having students choose their colours from a colour scheme of their choice. Each student was given a colour wheel. In addition to choosing a colour scheme the students had to create their own original colours by not painting colours straight from the containers. This was done by making TINTS, TONES and SHADES.

It is important to show students how to fix colours an that they learn to let go of control. The painting part is all based on colour composition and flow. No shapes and designs were included. This was a bit challenging as well. I would show more demonstrations, however the end results turned out fabulous.

Once they finished painting, they were asked to draw up a plan for their original pattern. This was a bit of a challenge. I was very unsure how to introduce patterning in such a short time. If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. I see my students very little in such a short time that its hard to do exercises leading into projects.

Once the taping was complete they put approx. two layers of white paint over the entire canvas, including the sides. Once the paint dried, they began taking off the tape, revealing their fabulous masterpieces.
